My stepdaughter comes home from school today upset. Seems that someone in class had stolen her purse in 1st period, no money in it, only the girly stuff, some candy and her Ipod. The Ipod that is not supposed to be at school but one of her genius teachers told her just don't get caught with it and it would be ok
Anyways thru the course of the day another student told her so and so was bragging about having stolen her purse. At some point in the day her purse is discovered in a bathroom and Jordan is called to the office to get it back. Jordan then asked the teacher so I guess I get my Ipod back at the end of the year? The teacher chimed " what Ipod". Jordan tells her that her Ipod and candy were missing out of the purse and then tells the teacher that someone had given her the name of the boy who was bragging about having stole her purse.
I am furious to say the least because the teacher blew it off about the stolen Ipod. As I calm down and think about this I think I will casually email the principal and tell her what my daughter has told me. Mention this boys name, ask about what punishment he could receive and ask for a meeting with the principal and boys parents. Stealing is a bad thing in my eyes and I want the boy expelled for this.
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on the matteR?

No, but I hate thieves. I had my backpack stolen out of my locker my junior year, and I'm still pissed about that. Good luck, if nothing else, tell Jordan to kick the boy in his pills one afternoon.

I'd email and follow up with a call to the principal or administrator. Emails can be ignored and phone calls can't really be documented.
I'd mark Ipods and phones with an identifying name or numbers, concealed if possible. Several dozen of my and my Dad's guns have my DL# engraved under the buttplate or some other concealed place. Same with many tools as well. It makes it easy to identify if there is a dispute over ownership, or you're cruising pawn shops looking for stolen items.
The nutt kicking would be simpler, though.

Tim

RTR,
Tim | I will not be ignored! I have emailed the principal and just got a response a few moments ago, I think I shook her up a bit. My daughter did not have the ipod marked like a dummy!

| We had problems with guys stealing money out of wallets in boy's pants during P.E. Thievery is about the lowest crap on the face of earth. I think the boy should be expelled or at least suspended AT. You have to follow through on this one for sure...

Pester the principal until they punish the boy appropriately. Be a thorn in their side.

If the principal is competent, she will take care of it immediately.
If not, be prepared for a long and confusing chain of events.
Depending on the school's rules and discipline plan, your daughter might face some kind of punishment as well, FWIW.

J, I think you're handling it well so far. There is no reason to go in there busting down the doors right off the bat (not that you were going to do that). Parents seem to fly off the handle so easily these days whether it be at school, at sporting events, etc...
Whatever happened to the "you catch more flies with honey" saying? I'm not saying let them walk all over you, but there is no reason not to handle it rationally in the beginning. If you need to be a squeaky wheel later then go for it.
Public school and its "policies" don't scare me. I'll respect them and follow them until the "policies" becomes more important than the best interests of my child.

| The principal turned it over to the Asst Principal and is now "interviewing" students. My girl named witnesses and the name of the person who the thief bragged to! Just goto the kid, get his parents asses in there and lets get it on!! I hate being patient when it comes to these damn administrators.

From my experiences in this area, school administrators tend to say "Johnny said this and your daughter said that, and I can't tell who is telling the truth, so I can't do anything."

Due to confidentiality issues, it's likely that even if the kid is punished, they won't tell you what his punishment is. They many not even utter his name.
