Tide’s Ticket to Oklahoma City? Punched.
While outscoring their opponents by a total of 34-3 over the post-season action this Alabama softball will make an appearance at the College World Series for Softball. It’ll mark the 3rd appearance in the last 4 years for the Tide to make the finals for the National Championship.
Alabama has been known for its offense prowess. But, the key ingredient this season has come on the defensive side. With the win vs Missouri Saturday most would look at the score and say, “the bats are hot.” Fact is, the gloves are making the difference. How often do you see a score sheet reflect a 9-3 out? Trust me, it’s uncommon.
The Missouri Tigers, the Super Regional opponent, were simply over-powered and over-matched. Alabama allowed one run to the Tigers as it practically coasted its way to the CWS.
The reason I think this Alabama team has a better chance at winning the National Championship this year than the other 5 teams that have made it this far all falls on defense. It seems, that the spark that kicks this team in gear isn’t a hit, but a defensive play. Defense has been the one area that the team hasn’t lacked, but hasn’t excelled out.
Congratulations to the Senior’s on this team as they have made appearances in the CWS 3 of their 4 years.
