As many of you know, I'm a dog lover. The chosen one of the group has been uber-sick for a couple of weeks. My white, male boxer can't walk, drink or do anything without panting for several minutes.
We spent about one grand at our VET and got no conclusive evidence. We had to take him to Auburn to find out what was going on. Our bill is approaching $2,500 and we think that we have his disease under control.
While we all like to make fun of the cow college, it might just turn out that they saved my best friend. I'm finding it hard to hate them like I know I should!

What made him sick?

Don't feel too bad about having one of the Auburnites as a vet. When I was looking for a vet a few years ago where they went to school was one of my first questions. The vet I see now, her and her husband both attended AU. And both, are fantastic at their work!
I have some construction work being done on the house right now...and yes, he's a structural engineering grad from AU who owns his own company now.
In fact, now that Auburn is getting into Automotive courses, it'll be a requirement for those that work on my car in a few years as well.

I know quite a few people that went to Auburn, that are Bama Fans. So not all Auburn Grads are bad. Truthfully, Auburn is a great school. I wanted to be a Vet before I chose my profession now, and would of had no problem going to Auburn being a thorn to them. I would of wore my Bama gear too.

My daughter is a 2nd year graduate student at Auburn. She could care less about sports, but when it came time to look at the best offers for teaching assistantships, theirs was it. She is planning on moving on once she gets her masters, though. Not a lot of the things she likes to do in the cow town.

Exactly. Both my sister and her husband went to Auburn for pharmacy school. They remained and still are some of the biggest Bama fans I know.

How old is your Boxer? I have owned Boxers all my life, I know the white ones tend to have alot of medical issues though. I have a brindle that I got back in June for my birthday.
My vet is an Aub, he is damn good. Also one of my cousins starts at AU this year pursuing her Vet degree.

My vet is also an Aubrunite. She's easy on the eyes as well as being a good vet.
I do; however, work with a most unusual man. He actually played baseball at Bama on a scholarship, yet he is a devoted Auburn fan. I mean, I can understand attending a school and still being a fan of the other, but its hard to imagine playing sports at a university and remaining a fan of the other school.
I asked him how he could do that. His response was that Alabama offered and Auburn didn't, so he took the scholarship, but he didn't hold a grudge. Says he is a fan of both until they play each other. Still, I have never seen him wear any Alabama apparel, only Barnie stuff. Has an Auburn tag on his truck too.

He part of you family. Than it not a laughing matter. I will pray that your family dog will get better. My friend had to have his dog put to sleep.
And this torn him up having to do this.

Thanks Rick. It is either one of two things. A semi-rare tick disease that I cannot pronounce, or congestive heart failure mixed with something else that renders his muscles useless. We are hoping that it is the former. If it is heart failure we'll probably have to put him down next weekend. That sux for many reasons. I'm working out of town and don't know if I'll be able to get back to say goodbye.
I've had him for six years next month and he's been my best friend through it all. He's the most stoic and gentle animal I've ever seen. He literally wouldn't hurt a bug. Other than his testicles not dropping as a puppy,(they had to go in and get 'em out because they can cause cancer) he has been the picture of health.
