Tony Mitchell has not yet enrolled in school. Per a Birmingham News article he is still waiting on final approval from the Eligibility Center (what we used to call the clearing house). He had to take a couple of classes in the 2nd semester of summer school to make it, from what I have heard. He has to enroll by Wednesday the 27th to be eligible for play during the fall semester. He is a good one and was expected to play early, so we sure hope he makes it.

I don't like it when players have to cut it this close. It makes me nevvous on how they'll adjust to college life.

I agree. It kind of makes me wonder about how well he will fit in, since Gottfried's teams have done very well in the classroom. For me, the adjustment from high school senior to college freshman was a difficult one. I can't imagine it being any easier now than it was then. Steele and Green already have a summer school semester at Alabama behind them so they are already acclimated.

Mitchell has now been cleared.

http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/goodmanonfox

Quote:
RANDOM NOTES: Kansas coach Bill Self said there was still no word on whether the Morris Twins, Marcus and Markieff, have been cleared by the NCAA yet. … Alabama received good news when wing Tony Mitchell was cleared by the NCAA. … I caught a few minutes of the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game, but it was so painful to watch that I had to turn it off almost immediately. I know it’s hard to fathom, but it’s even a step down from AAU ball in terms of the quality of play. … North Texas coach Johnny Jones received an extension through the 2012-13 season. Jones has led the Mean Green to consecutive 20-win seasons and its second NCAA tournament berth in 2007. ... Memphis big man Hashim Bailey has followed former Tigers assistant Derek Kellogg to UMass.

A further update on Tony Mitchell. He is attending Central Park Christian in Birmingham, and may enroll in January. Under NCAA rules even if he is in school in January he can't play until next year because he wasn't in school for the fall semester.

Mitchell is a lights out shooter, great in transition, good ball handler. Go down the basketball page and you should find one with a video of him

As far as who can shoot, Ron Steele and Brandon Hollinger will be the two main guys from the perimeter. Juco PG Anthony Brock comes in with the reputation of being an outside shooter. I hope Senario Hillman has worked lots on his shot, since the other parts of his game are so good. But we do need Gee to contribute as an outside shooter as well. He is effective going to the basket, but he needs to keep the defense honest as well.

I think if he could enroll in January, that would the best thing for him. Give him a chance to get aclcimated and get that grade thing under control.
